Support for ex charismatics

September 11, 2008

It can be a very traumatic experience coming out of the charismatic church. Some people have experienced manipulation, control, rejection and an utter realisation that some charismatic churches are unbiblical. If you are an ex charismatic, there is hope beyond what you are going through.. In this day and age, there are too many voices, too many different doctrines, too many opinions. I want to help you clear things up in your head by encouraging you to read your bible. Don’t even rely on my opinion but rely on the precious word of God, His ultimate sacrifice and stand on what Jesus did for you on the cross. He died and rose again. He defeated death that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but will have eternal life. Stand on the basics. Don’t stress, God will help you, but you must do your part in reading your bible. God can speak to you through His written word.

i have been through it and I am still going through the stages of recovery. In essence, I hope to be a vessel of support for those who have and are going through leaving the charismatic church. If you have just come out, this is an exciting time for you even though you may be scared. The bible will now be your priority hopefully and you will no longer depend on people to ‘give you words of knowledge’ because you will have all the answers you need in your bible.

I am not here to bash the charismatic people. I do however hope to shed light to the absolute necessity of sticking to the bible.

I pray peace and grace for you.

Trading my pastor in for Christ

October 10, 2008

I think that the title explains itself. Walking away from charisma made me see so many errors within my own beliefs. I realise that I needed to step out of the church environment to see where I had gone wrong.

Looking back at how hard I had to live up to the expectations of the church I came out of, I was a wreck. I had lost my focus and now I have traded my pastor in for Christ.

So in short, sometimes we have to leave a situation in order to see correctly.

In Brokeness we find ourselves

October 7, 2008

I have found myself in a place of brokeness since leaving the charismatic church. In this I find some relief because through this, I can only believe that deconstruction serves a brilliant purpose. In this time, I can relate to others, help others and at the same time, find restoration myself.

I also find that healing takes time. I don’t have to get over it straight away. I need to go through all the emotions and eventually find myself able to trust again. One good thing of coming out of the charismatic church and claiming the ‘ex charismatic’ title, I am able to discern more. Through praying for wisdom and truth, I see so many errors within the church I came out of.

I am at peace with where I am at right now. It’s messy, but I trust God!

I am learning more now than I ever have. There are many good websites and support groups for the ex charismatic or post charismatic. We are not alone!! That is so encouraging! Go to for links to other relating websites. Healing is possible and I find that the ones who survive coming out of charisma actually become more mature in their christian faith! There is hope!
